The Center for the Skills & Experience Flags (CSEF) fosters excellence in flagged courses across disciplines and supports instructors as they teach students to think critically, write cogently, engage in inquiry and discovery, examine ethical questions, and learn about cultures. The Skills & Experience Flags are degree requirements for all undergraduate students at The University of Texas at Austin. Flagged courses are taught across the curriculum so that students learn about writing or ethical decision-making, for example, in the context of their own discipline. CSEF Curriculum Specialists work collaboratively with instructors, TAs, and departments to develop best practices and pedagogical techniques for teaching Flags while tailoring these resources for specific departments or disciplines. We collaborate with individual instructors about teaching in Flag areas, offer Canvas pages with Flag-related teaching resources, and host general and customized workshops for instructors.
